Tyre Fitting in Milber
New tyres, puncture repairs, tracking and balancing for Milber drivers, from our garage at Longcombe Cross near Totnes.

Milber is a residential district on the edge of Newton Abbot, with an industrial estate close by and quick access to the A380. That mix means a lot of everyday mileage: school runs, trips to work and regular dual carriageway running. All of it wears tyres, and most drivers only notice when something feels wrong.
At Automaster we fit tyres, repair punctures, and set up wheel alignment and balancing for drivers from Milber, Newton Abbot and the villages around. Our garage is at Longcombe Cross near Totnes, and this page explains what to look for and what to tell us when you ask for a quote.
How do I know if my tyres need replacing?
The legal minimum tread depth for cars in the UK is 1.6 mm across the central three quarters of the tread, all the way round. A tread depth gauge gives a far more reliable reading than guesswork. Many drivers choose to replace earlier than the legal limit because grip on wet roads falls away as the tread wears down.
Look at the sidewalls too. Bulges, cuts or cracking mean the tyre structure is compromised and it should be looked at before further driving.
- Tread at or near the legal minimum
- Bulge or blister on a sidewall
- Cuts, cracking or exposed cord
- Repeated pressure loss
Does regular dual carriageway use change how tyres wear?
Sustained speed on roads like the A380 builds heat in the tyre, and a tyre that is under-inflated, old or damaged copes with that badly. Check pressures when the tyres are cold, using the figures for your vehicle in the handbook or door pillar.
Short stop-start trips around a residential area wear tyres differently, with more scrubbing at junctions and roundabouts. Mixed use is normal, and a tyre check takes in both.
Can my puncture be repaired?
Often a nail or screw in the central tread area can be repaired properly from inside the tyre, once the tyre has been taken off the wheel and inspected. Damage to the sidewall or the shoulder cannot be safely repaired, and neither can a tyre that has been driven on while flat.
A quick plug from the outside alone is not a sound repair. We inspect first, then tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes sense.
Why do alignment and balancing matter?
Alignment, also called tracking, sets the angle of the wheels relative to each other and the road. If it drifts, the car may pull to one side, the steering wheel may sit off-centre, and the edges of the tyres wear unevenly. A hard kerb strike or pothole can knock it out.
Balancing corrects small weight differences around the wheel and tyre. An unbalanced wheel often shows as a vibration through the steering wheel or seat at certain speeds.
Do you cover Milber, and how do I get a quote?
Yes, drivers from Milber, Newton Abbot, Abbotskerswell, Stoke-in-Teignhead and Teignmouth bring their cars to Longcombe Cross near Totnes. For a quote, tell us the make, model and year, the tyre size printed on the sidewall, and whether you want a matched set or a single tyre.
Mention any pulling, vibration or uneven wear you have noticed, so we know whether alignment or balancing should be part of the job.
If your Milber car pulls, vibrates or is running low on tread, ask Automaster for a tyre quote and tell us the size and what you have noticed.
Questions about tyre fitting in Milber
Should I replace just one tyre?
It depends on the vehicle and the condition of the other tyres. Tyres on the same axle should normally match in size, type and similar wear, so replacing one may mean replacing a pair. Ask for a quote and we will explain the options.
How old is too old for a tyre?
Rubber hardens with age even when the tread looks fine. The four-digit date code on the sidewall shows the week and year of manufacture. If your tyres are several years old, have them checked, especially if the car sits unused for long periods.
My car pulls to one side. Is that the tyres?
It can be uneven pressures, uneven wear or poor alignment, and sometimes a brake or suspension fault. If the steering feels unsafe, do not keep driving. Book it in for an inspection.
Is it safe to drive on a tyre with a bulge?
No. A bulge means internal damage and the tyre can fail without warning. Have it replaced as soon as possible and avoid higher speeds until it has been changed.
